While I was building my box, I made some basic considerations on how I'm going to build it. In other words, I made a brief before building my box, or even my mockup/model.
Identifying the NEED / PROBLEM / OPPORTUNITIES
Need: I’m making this box crate storage because I am that kind of person who is messy and after using something I won’t put it back where it came from.
Opportunities for this storage are;
- If I’m not using it as a storage for myself, we can use it as a family. To put things in the storage that we use every day in the living room such as; TV remote, Heat pump remote, and etc.
Problem: The problem to solve is to have this only one storage in my bedroom where I can put the stuff that I use every day like my charger, headphones, bracelets, watches and etc.
So who is it for?
I designed and going to manufacture the box crate storage for myself. Because I needed a much larger storage box.
What do I want it to do? (Purpose / Function)
I needed a much larger storage for myself. If I’m not using it, we can use it as a family such as to put the TV remote so we can’t lose those kinds of stuff in the living room that we use every day.
Where is it going to be used?
I decided that I would like to put it on the top of my bedside table. So I can put my glasses, watch, earrings and etc. before I go to sleep. Or on our coffee table in the living room.
What are the things that I found out was; I researched what are the other sizes, thickness and width and length out there. But in the end, I've decided to use 12mm. However, because I was undecided on how am I going to design my box. I researched some vintage design box and these are the designs that I liked. My first choice was making the handle rope instead of using wood, but I came into a conclusion that, I'm going to use rope, the proportion of the box is not going to be equal. For example, what if the other side was heavier than the other? The box would turn and not stable, ropes also hurt our hands if the contents are heavy. But in the end, I decided to use the design from the last photo. Because the end of this box was different than the others, so it's pretty much unique. I made some specification to my actual design, I added 4 drawers. 2 big drawers and 2 small drawers.
Here is a series of pictures & video on how I made my mockup/model box;

I really liked how you are going to make a box inside a box were you can just slide out and I want to ask if the part where the pole is will it be strong enough enough
ReplyDeleteThank you for your thoughts for my box and I actually haven't thought about my handle's strength. But YES! I'm going to make it strong enough.
DeleteI like your design of your box where you can put stuff like remotes and stuff and i also like how you showed us you making it. Just wanting to know is there anything going to be added to your box like any colour and what is going on the top of your box
ReplyDeleteI like how you took a picture of how you were progressing and i like how you tell us what length and width. I think it looks cool how you design it.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a lit bit small.
I like your wooden box design and including measurement on to your picture. I also like how you state the NEED/PROBLEM/OPPORTUNITIES. I am not sure about the x, are they apartment? or just design. But other then that I like your wooden box, good job.
