Wind Racers

Aim: To build the fastest wind racing sails.

Equipment:

  • Trolley
  • Cardboard
  • Strings
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Pole
  • Thin papers.
  1. We cut the cardboard to do the triangular part on the trolley.
  2. Then we tapped it together to the trolley
  3. We added the pole for the trolley.
  4. We cut the paper sail correctly and mathematically like the other one bigger and one was smaller.
  5. We taped a cardboard below the sail to make it stronger.
  6. Lastly, we properly taped the paper sail to the pole.
Research:
How do sailboats work?

How do sails work?

Conclusion: Our wind racer went to a distance of 5 metres, time of 8 seconds and the speed of 0.625.

  1. It was so cool to walk into the Chemistry room and see your wind racer! The car park is a good place to test to see how fast they can go, don't you think? I hope you had fun making it and that you are enjoying the new science space.
