Characteristic of My Character

She's a girl, a 15-year-old high school girl to be exact. In the monologue, the character is turning 16 tomorrow and she wants to borrow her Dad's car to pick up her 'cool friends'. At first, her Dad's not letting her borrow the car, but in the end, her Dad can't stop her because she's kind of a spoiled brat daughter. The character wants to look cool with her friends.

Drama Monologue

I chose this script because I think this monologue is pretty fit for me as a 14-year-old High School.

A young actress auditioning for her school requested a monologue for a 15-year-old.  With that broad request, I decided to make the piece about being not quite old enough to drive.
A comedic female monologue created by Gabriel Davis

"Dad, you will let me take the car myself.  I’m going to be 16 in two weeks.  Yeah, technically my learner’s permit requires you in the car with me … technically I have to wait two weeks to get my license ….

But you know I can drive, you told me I’m better than mom.  I can three point turn, parallel park, and I observe the traffic laws like a religion.  So it’s not like irresponsible to let me drive, because you know I’m awesome at it.

GOD!   This is so unfair.   I hate you!   You’re going to ruin me socially.

The coolest girls in freshman year, the ones whose parents are all probably making huge donations at mom’s gala tonight, who live in the massive houses on the hill and won’t talk to me.  They started talking to me. Because they needed a ride to the dance.   And I’m like, I can take you.   And they’re like, “you’re 16?” and I’m all “yeah.” And then they said, “cool.”  And I’ve been eating lunch with them every day this week, and they’re all so excited.

It was well thought out.  You and mom were supposed to be at her benefit gala thing tonight … you weren’t supposed to have a stupid fever and be stuck at home. If I let them down…  If I don’t get in that car right now and go pick them up and take them to the dance  … I’m dead or I might as well be.   They will make it their life’s work to ruin me.  I will be marked, mocked, and probably shunned.  My entire high school experience will become hell.

I’m not being dramatic.  I’m being accurate, dad.  This is how things go.

So I’m begging you … just …. Just go to sleep.   You have a fever you know.    You need your rest.  Just, go to sleep now and I’ll… I’ll still be here when you wake up in exactly 3 hours.  Right before mom gets back.

Please, Dad. My life depends on it."

Maori Performing Arts

12 / 9 / 17
Alyana and Danielle

In Maori Performing Arts is the combination of Maori culture and performing. One of them is the Haka: war chants. I find the Haka very unique and fascinating. The Haka is an ancient posture dance of the Maori culture that was traditionally used to prepare a war battle.

Spring is in the air.
The sun is shining bright.
Spring is my favourite season of the year.

Joanna Preston

Joanna Preston was born in Sydney Australia but immigrated to New Zealand in 1994. Joanna joined the Airing Cupboard Women Poet group in 1998 and began writing poets seriously. Joanna is a freelance poet, so she doesn't have exact topics when it comes to writing poems.

Poems from her book 'The Summer King'
Daybreak
From my bed on the back verandah
white-stippled paddocks reach
all the way to the mountains.
Frost has etched the lines
of cobwebs into the brittle air.

The sway-backed mare drowses
surrounded by wraiths of breath,
each long eyelash tipped
with a bead of moisture –
its own sliver of sun.

A kookaburra scrapes his beak
along the low branch
of the old persimmon. Soon
he will throttle the stillness,
and thaw this silver morning.
(The reason why I like this poem because the way she describes simple things turns out so beautiful)

The Pride of Lions
But before we could marry, he became a lion –
thick pelted, and rich with the musk of beast.

The switch to all fours was not easy – all his weight
slung from the blades of his shoulders.
His deltoids knotted like teak burls,
and I burnished them as he slept.

Burrs matted his mane, and for days
he wouldn’t let me groom him –
slapped me away with a suede paw,
snarled against my throat.

He would not eat fruit, or drink milk,
but tore meat from the bones I provided.

His claws caught in the carpet,
so I stripped the rugs from the floor
and polished the boards until they gleamed
and rang with the chime of his nails.

I stroke his saffron hide
and tangle my fingers deep in his ruff,
draw him up around me, ardent
as the gleam of his topaz eyes

– the hypnotic lash of his tail,
the rasp of his tongue on my thighs.
(I don't like this poem that much compared to the other one, but it's still beautiful and still an art.)

Cries of a Broken Heart

When my old self died,
and the tears I cried have dried.
I'm tired of everything worth existing.
Living a beautiful lie that turns out to be full of pain.
And there seems to be no rainbow after the howling rain.

I know I've lived in a world full of lies.
In a kingdom of unheard cries.
I'm the Princess trapped in the cursed castle.
No way to escape, but to jump from the tower.

Living or dying means no difference,
Feels like I've died a million times,
and to die a thousand more.
I could've just ended the sufferings,

I'll go to a different kingdom.
Where I'm the Queen and there's no King.
It should've been you, but you left me hanging.

I knew it right away,
Just like them, you'll leave and never stay.
I just wanted to say I'm okay.
But deep inside, I am not okay.

Art Nouveau
Art Nouveau is a really cool art form too because it requires a lot of details. Art Nouveau was popular back in 1890 and 1910.
