Project Based Learning 2017

"There's H.O.P.E."

First of all, I'd like to thank Mr. Wilson and Mr. Aitken for giving us the opportunity to make a difference in our community.

On Monday, we started PBL. In PBL, were formed into groups with 3-4 members. Our teachers gave us an opportunity to choose who do we like to work with, and I chose Lovely and Wardah.  My group, HOPE chose mental health as our topic. We did some intensive research about it because this topic is a serious topic.

Here are the websites we've accessed for the past few days; and suicide statistics are shocking

Then, we need to answer these questions;
Who is affected?
- Groups and Individuals like Adults, Millennials, Teens.
What is the issue?
- Suicide rates are dramatically rising, Wrong understanding about Mental Health, Lacking professional help, Issues that costs depression like homelessness, inequality, etc.
When and how did it start?
-  It's happening for a long time but for the past 7 years, It's dramatically rising. It started in the year 1930's 'Great Depression' which caused mass unemployment in New Zealand.
Where is it happening?
- It happens all over the world, not just in Christchurch or New Zealand. But Christchurch statistics on suicide rates are dramatically rising.
Why is this happening?
- Depression is the outcome of other issues like poverty, homelessness, inequality, etc.

We've done the research and our desire to change in our community, now what is our plan?
We want to make a positive impact in our community by raising awareness like making posters and flyers and form a group where they can talk about their problems without judging them.
